Friends of the Grenfell Library
Friends of Grenfell Library also known as FOGL are a group of Grenfell residents who meet once a month at 2pm in the library, between February and October.
Our aim is to promote, give assistance and encourage the development of the Grenfell Library.
FOGL members encourage residents to appreciate the Library and the services that are provided. Members hold fund raising and activities. The funds raised are used to purchase extra items, along with supporting the Library and Librarian.
Some of the past events include raffles, street stalls, Senior’s Morning Tea, authors visits, coffee mornings with a guest speaker, catering of events and purchasing of the books for the baby packs.
At the end of 2018 FOGL paid for the Roadshow licence to enable more recent movies to be shown including Ladies in Black and Bohemian Rhapsody. The movies are free to watch. The FOGL run a candy bar and there is a donation jar available if people WISH to donate. A big thank you to the Grenfell Men’s Shed for assisting us with the production of our Candy Bar trolley. Movie attendance for 2018/19 financial year has been 255 people, 2019/20 was 376 and in 2020/21 was 123 due to COVID-19 restrictions.
FOGL has assisted with the purchase of board books that are added to newborn baby information packs and sent to community health to be handed out to new mothers. In the last year our Librarian Erica has provided approx. 40 packs in two lots of 20.
On the 3rd of December 2018 Erica held a “by invitation only” and official opening of the new library refurbishments which FOGL assisted in the supply of morning tea. On the same morning FOGL presented the Country Education Foundation (CEF) with a cheque for $70 to help assist students finishing school to go on to tertiary studies. This was instead of buying secret Santa gifts for each other.
