Summer Reading Challenge continues this month
The Summer Reading Challenge kicked off on December 1 and continues throughout January. If you haven’t signed up there is still time. Why not drop in and pick up your pack. The challenge is great for all kids aged from Preschool to Year 12 and there are some fun prizes to win throughout the summer.
Reminder that there is a list of suggested readings in your bag and on display in the library for you to choose from and that there are lots of fun prizes awaiting you all in the lucky dip box.
If you have been busy reading and read at least 20 stories bring your bookmark in and dip your hand into the lucky dip prize box.
New Year new activities and others returning
With restrictions staying steady for us so far we are beginning the year with activities returning such as Preschool Storytime and Baby bounce, PJ Storytime and the Cinema.
This year I am introducing a Junior Book Club for kids in years 4, 5 and 6 once a month on a Wednesday at 5pm. The club is for all types of readers.
Once a month we will meet to
discuss books that you are reading
encourage you to select books that you normally wouldn’t choose
encourage you to select books that you think are above your reading level
recommend/swap books amongst the group
and most importantly have fun
Please come and help me give the club a name.
In 2021 I am also offering those who want to create a Book Club an option to access book kits containing 10 copies of a single title. The guidelines and registration form is now available at the library.
Preschool Storytime and Baby Bounce will be returning from Wednesday 3 February at 10.30am and then every 2 weeks after that during school term only.
The Cinema is returning on Saturday 13 February with the Australian movie Rams. Doors will open at 7.45pm for an 8pm start. Seats must be prebooked via the Library as no walk-ins allowed on the night. Seats are limited so book in early.
The free online author talks are back for 2021. Starting with an interesting talk covering Greek Australian Milkbars and Cafes: Past and Present on Tuesday 9 and then later in the month there is a free talk with the author of the new book The funny thing about Norman Freeman.
Story Box Library now available to be accessed in Library
Some people would have noticed the new TV that has been installed in the kids’ section of the library. We have hooked up the Story Box Library for you to utilise while in the library. Just ask next time you are visiting.
Options for eBooks & eAudiobooks
Are you aware that as a member you have free access to different platforms for eBooks and eAudiobooks? Don’t forget that for the kids we have free access to Story Box Library. More information is available on the library website at https://grenfellpubliclibrary.org.au/elibrary/
